 Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation"se'lena Kinta'nija Peres" April 16, 1971 – March 31 1995), was an American Tejano singer. She was dubbed the "Queen of Tejano music", her contribution to fashion and music led her to be one of the most well-known Mexican-American entertainers in the last decade of the 20th century. Billboard magazine placed her at third in the year 2020, on their "Greatest Latino Artists List of All Time", which was inspired by Latin songs as well as Latin albums. For her choice of clothing the media referred to her as the Tejano Madonna. Her choices in clothing have brought her the title "Tejano Madonna" by media outlets. Quintanilla Quintanilla. In the 80s, she was frequently dismissed and had to be denied bookings in venues across Texas for performing Tejano music, which is a male-dominated genre. The acclaim she received grew after she won the Tejano Music Award as Female Vocalist of the Year in 1987. She won it nine times. During that time, her brother was her primary music producer as well as songwriter.Selena has released Entre a Mi Mundo (1992) which reached number one on the US Billboard Regional Mexican Albums chart for eight months in a row. Critics called it"the "breakthrough recording" of her career due to its commercial success. One of the singles, "Como la Flor", was a hit and was her most-loved song. Live! Live! Amor Prohibido became one the most-sold Latin albums in the United States in 1994. It was critically acclaimed as the first Tejano music album that was commercially viable and quickly became one of the most loved Latin subgenres of Latin music of the time.
